From 2006 to 2012 Hüseyin Tabak studied at the Filmakademie Wien and founded the film production company Epik Filmproduktion GmbH together with Mehmet Aktaş in 2018.

In 2012, after having made the documentary «Kick Off», he developed his first film for the cinema, «Beauty is Worthless», and won the Austrian film prize in four categories, one of them being best film and best direction. His second film for the cinema, a children´s movie «The Horse on my Balcony», won the main prize at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival. In 2017, his documentary «The Legend of the Ugly King» premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won in the category best documentary at the film festival in Hof. His third movie «Gipsy Queen» was awarded at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and was then shown in cinemas in 2019. In 2022 his episode «The Thorn» form the anthology series «Punishment», based on the book by Ferdinand von Schirach, premiered at Cannes Series. His fourth film «Oskar’s Dress» premiered in cinemas in December 2022 and reached more than 600,000 people in German cinemas. In November 2023 «Oskar’s Dress» was awarded with the Bambi for best national film.
